Do you know the story of Sadako Sasaki?

She was a young Japanese girl who was two years old when the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
When she was 12, she was diagnosed with leukemia and she was hospitalized.

Her best friend came to the hospital to visit, and she told to her a Japanese story that promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by the gods.

She started to fold as many origami as she could, using all the paper she could found, and even the paper from other patient's get-well presents.

Around mid-October, her condition worsened and her leg turned purple. She died on the morning of October 1955, at the age of 12.

Sadako has only folded 644 cranes during her life. Her friends finished to fold the 356 others and raised funds to build a memorial to her and all of the children who had died because of the atomic bomb.


This must be the story of World War II that touched me the most with the diary of Anne Frank.

I don't want stories like this one to be forgotten.
